Choice
I am unequivocally pro-choice. I support a woman’s right to choose and am a long-time supporter of Planned Parenthood. As a policy and advocacy organization, as well as a health services provider, Planned Parenthood promotes a holistic, commonsense approach to women’s health. They respect each individual’s right to make informed, independent decisions about sex, health, and family planning and they provide affordable reproductive health care. In my work at the University of Chicago, I prepared an exhaustive analysis of abortion policies by state and their effect on access and utilization by age. This work produced evidence that confirmed my initial observations: laws that required notification and mandatory waiting periods worked mostly to burden low income women and jeopardize already imperiled teens, many of whom were victims of sexual violence and poverty. |
